TAY-R-0012
Taylor R-0012 hardness reagent is a titrant used with R-0010 and R-0011L to test calcium hardness in pools, involving adding drops to a water sample until the color changes from red to blue; each drop typically equals 10 ppm, with the total drops (multiplied by a factor) giving your hardness level, crucial for preventing scale and corrosion.
- Collect Sample: Fill your test tube to the 25 ml mark with pool water.
- Add Buffer & Indicator: Add 20 drops of R-0010 (buffer) and swirl, then add 5 drops of R-0011L (indicator) and swirl; the sample turns reddish-pink.
- Titrate with R-0012: Add R-0012 reagent one drop at a time, swirling after each drop, and count the drops until the color changes from red to blue.
- Calculate Result: Multiply the number of drops by 10 (for a 25mL sample) to get your calcium hardness in parts per million (ppm).
- High Hardness: If using a smaller sample (e.g., 10mL) or expecting very high hardness, the multiplier might be 25.
